Despite a disappointing opening day defeat the CBS got their league campaign back on track with a fine performance away to Carrick on Shannon Community School.

Daire Byrne set the tone for the match in the opening minute with a well taken score after a superb driven run from midfield. Possession was won directly from the next kick out and the ball worked into corner forward Conor McNamara who finished to the net. An excellent opening five minutes was completed with a point from Diarmaid Collins.

This put the Roscommon men firmly in the driving seat, five points clear. Darragh Walsh added two frees before Ciaran Lawless added another well taken point. Carrick did eventually start to come into the game despite this strong opening from the CBS. They managed to work the ball inside and had a clear run at goal, in spite of a fine save from Cormac Miley, they were on to the rebound quickly and raised the green flag with their opening score. The Roscommon side were still largely in control off the game moving the ball at pace throughout the field. McNamara netted again before Captain Sean Hanly added two well worked scores. It was the 23rd minute before Carrick managed their second score with a pointed free. Walsh added another point as Carrick scored just before the break to leave it 2-8 to 1-2 at halftime.

The second half continued in much the same vain with Lawless, Collins and Byrne pointing in the opening few minutes to ensure the CBS remained dominant. Carrick added two points interspersed with another from Lawless and a first point of the game from Full Back John Martin. The game was firmly put to bed with goals from Collins and another from McNamara, completing his hat trick. The final period of the game was by far the strongest for Carrick on Shannon as they managed to cut the deficit with the last four scores of the game. A solid performance by the Senior Footballers recovering well from their opening day defeat. Final score CBS 4-13 Carrick CS 1-8.
