The CBS built on the strong performance against Carrick with another fine display in their final group game against Ballinamore Community School.
The CBS started the brighter with a number of early chances but were unable to capitalise failing to convert these opportunities. Ballinamore would punish these early misses with a point from play and a pointed free within the opening 5 minutes. A fine drive forward from midfielder resulted in Daire Byrne registering the CBS opening score. Darragh Walsh added two frees to edge the Roscommon side in front at the 11-minute mark. The CBS were dominating the possession stakes and had a couple of decent goal opportunities early on, but were not proving clinical in front of goal. Points from Walsh and full forward Shane Purcell did however keep the scoreboard ticking over. The CBS led 0-5 to 0-2. Ballinamore hit back with two frees just before the break while Walsh added another point from play in injury time to see the Roscommon side lead at the break 0-6 to 0-4.
While the CBS will have felt they should have led by more at the break the gap was down to just a point early in the second with a well taken score from Ballinamore. Still dominating the possession stakes the CBS didn’t panic and keep the scores coming. Another fine individual effort from Walsh was closely followed by two from corner forward Conor McNamara. Ballinamore responded to make it 0-9 to 0-6, but the CBS were about to have their most dominant period of the game. Another point from play from Walsh was followed by points form Patrick Fannon and again from Byrne. At the 44 minute mark Walsh pointed again from play before closing out this period of the game with a beautifully struck 45. The score now stood 0-14 to 0-6 in favour of the Roscommon men and a comeback looked to be beyond Ballinamore. In spite of this the Leitrim side came hunting for a goal and were only denied by some fine work from goalkeeper Cormac Miley. Ballinamore did add two scores from play in this period to cut the gap to 6. The Roscommon Town side were still largely in control but again in the second half were guilty of spurning goal opportunities to put the game to bed. Purcell pointed again before Diarmaid Collins and another from McNamara pushed the gap out to 9. Ballinamore pointed before the irrepressible Walsh had the last say with a well struck free. Final score Roscommon CBS 0-18 Ballinamore CS 0-9.
This result ensured progression from the group to the League Quarter Finals in mid-Novemeber.
