CBS U-14 rugby team got their League campaign up and running with a comprehensive win over Sligo Grammar. The first half was a cagey affair with both defenses holding firm for 20 minutes. Strong tackling from the CBS lads ensured that Grammar’s chances were restricted and with our forwards beginning to exert dominance, we created some space out wide for Darren Gately to skip through for a try under the posts. Gately added the conversion to ensure CBS went in at half time 7-0 up.
This pattern continued in the 2nd half, with Ben Johnson, Edimar de Cunha and Finn Carroll all excellent in attack and defense. Half backs kieran Purcell and DJ Hession were providing good ball to the backs and Darren Gately again pounced to score a superb try. Once again the conversion was added and CBS took a commanding 14 -0 lead. CBS introduced some subs and Eoin Harrington and Mark O’Malley kept the intensity going with some great tackling and line breaks. CBS were not finished yet and the excellent Conor Gannon set up Gately for his 3rd try and cap off an excellent team performance. Every player can be pround that they all contributed to the effort.
