Teachers in the CBS recently participated in a professional development course in Wellbeing, a new subject for the Junior Certificate cycle. The programme is designed to enhance the physical, mental, emotional and social wellbeing of students, and help them to cope with the normal stresses of life and have a sense of belonging to a wider community.
The CBS has already been very strong in this area, and all our policies and day-to-day practises within the school are designed to contribute to students’ wellbeing. The new course has six indicators – Active, Responsible, Connected, Resilient, Respected and Aware. These pillars of learning can be used to support ongoing reflection by students about their own Wellbeing.
The subject will be assessed through classroom-based exercises in conjunction with a shorter exam at the end of third year. Staff and management in the CBS have been very proactive in preparing for this new subject, and look forward to its formal introduction onto the curriculum. More details on Wellbeing can be found on this website.
