Sixth class boys from Roscommon town and surrounding areas enjoyed an activity-packed morning in the CBS recently as part of the school’s Open Day..
The boys were divided into groups, and followed a timetable of mini-lessons which introduced them to new subjects such as Business Studies, French, Spanish, Design and Communication Graphics, Materials Technology (Woodwork) and Science. They got to participate in hands on learning activities and meet with students from other schools in a warm, welcoming environment. Teachers were ably assisted by First Year students who guided prospective students around the school.
Students also participated in a number of sports activities outside, and they were presented with CBS jerseys to mark their first day in the school.
The Principal and Deputy Principal addressed the parents and answered questions on the academic and pastoral life of the school, and the school’s track record in achieving the best possible results for its students. They outlined the school’s emphasis on developing a growth mind-set amongst its students which helped them to understand that it is effort and perseverance that lead to success. Ms Reale also spoke about the school’s emphasis on inclusivity ensures that each students feel safe and part of the school community. Fifth Year John McDermott also gave a comprehensive speech on his experience within the school from a student’s perspective.
Many thanks to the teachers who organised the sessions and prepared the school for the Open Day. They provided a warm welcome for parents and students alike. Thanks too to our current Junior and Senior students who helped out on the day, and to the Parents’ Council for refreshments provided. We hope that both parents and students had a positive and informative evening. If any parent or student was unable to attend, we would be happy to speak to them at any stage.
