A number of Transition Year students have been busy putting together a three minute video on climate change for a secondary school journalism competition which runs across Ireland and Great Britain. The theme of the video is ‘Tackling the Problem of Climate Change’ and involves the students looking at how their own area has been affected by climate change and the steps they have taken to implement change. Jamie Finnegan and Mark Cox in Transition Year were managing the entry – and spoke to students about how the drought of summer 2018 had affected farmers in Roscommon. They linked this to the effects of climate change in Third World countries. They also looked at how reducing single use plastic could help the environment and examined the change that the introduction of the new water fountain in the school has made. Well done to all TY students and we wish them well in the competition.
