On the morning of January 8th, six students from C.B.S. Roscommon headed for the BT Young Scientist, accompanied by their Science teachers Ms. O’Callaghan and Ms. Grennan.
The first day was spent in the R.D.S. setting up displays for the first round of judging and for the general public. In the afternoon, all participants and teachers were brought into the grand hall where the opening ceremony took place.
Early on Thursday morning it was back to the RDS where students found out what time the second round of judging was starting, and spent the morning preparing for the judges, as well as answering any questions the public had on their projects. Students endured a tough Q&A session in the afternoon which lasted around fifteen minutes but then had the rest of the day to attend the various science shows throughout the exhibition.
On Friday, students were put through the final round of judging, and then attended the award ceremony which took place that evening.
Although the CBS didn’t win any prizes this year, students were very happy with their effort, and thoroughly enjoyed taking part. Overall the majority of students would agree it was a brilliant experience and would definitely advise next year’s Transitions Years to enter.
