Transition Years can still complete their ‘GAA Future Leaders’ ePortfolio, despite school closures. The ePortfolio can be completed entirely online.
The “Future Leaders Transition Year Programme” is a joint initiative from the GAA and the Professional Development Service for Teachers (PDST) comprising of a series of modules designed to encourage maturity, initiative, responsibility and leadership skills in pupils. It gives pupils the knowledge and skills to support the roles required in the staging of Gaelic Games. With Future Leaders, students are challenged to organise events for younger students.
In the CBS a number TY’s used the skills developed in the programme to run a ‘Hurling Super Games Centre’ with some of the first years recently. They developed a training session based around one particular Hurling skill, with all first years participating. They will continue to run centres with remaining first years and second years when the school reopens.
