Graduation Mass

A special Mass to honour the CBS Roscommon Class of 2022 was celebrated last week in the Sacred Heart Church, attended by the families and teachers of this year’s CBS Leaving Certificate student. The graduation mass provides a wonderful opportunity to mark the transition of each student onto the next stage of their academic career and life’s journey, and this year was particularly important, as this group of students have missed so many milestones and celebrations already because of Covid.

Student of the Year 2022 went to Donnchadh O’Dwyer for his massive contribution to school life from First to Sixth Year.  A number of students were nominated for Student of the Month throughout the year for their conduct, effort and dedication to their academic endeavours. Donnchadh won the overall prize for his impeccable conduct at all times, willingness to go the extra mile, and the positive attitude at all time.  The Victor Ludorum Cup which is awarded for sporting excellence in the school went to Darren Gately. A huge congratulations to students for their much-deserved awards.    Year Head, Ms Murphy, also spoke to the students, reminding them of the need to be resilient and brave as they embark on their lives. She reminded them of words of Jack Kavanagh who spoke to them at the awarding of the Roscomon passports, about the need to come back from challenges. Mr Scollan also addressed the students, thanking them for their contribution to school life and urging them to remain in contact with the school.

Thank you to all who helped prepare the ceremony – the prayers, mass booklets, the choir and artwork – the effort put in by teachers was fantastic, and helped to create a special atmosphere for all students and their families. Thank you also to the Parents’ Council and students who worked tirelessly to ensure that this was a special evening for the Class of 2022 and their families. A special thanks also to Father Joe for making the ceremony so special for them. It was a particularly moving ceremony given all that this group of students have been through. We wish them every success in their upcoming exams.
