On Thursday the 23rd of May
we held our Graduation Mass for the Class of 2024. Although this year group was smaller in number, their talents, kindness and and friendship abounded – remarked upon by many.
Fr. Joe Fitzgerald and Deacon Willie Gacquin celebrated a wonderful mass accompanied by our fantastic choir and musicians. Some 6th years presented items from their time here in the CBS while others read prayers of the faithful and reflections. Patryk Debowski and Craig Counihan also designed the artwork for the mass booklet.
Following the mass Mr. Scollan and Ms. Flynn, 6th Year Year Head, spoke fondly of the students and reminded us of both the trials and celebrations that this particular cohort of students have experienced throughout their post-primary education. Second year students when the pandemic hit, these lads have shown incredible resilience and determination in both their academic and sporting endeavours since. The 6th years who were nominated students of the month throughout the year received a medal in recognition of their achievements. Congratulations to all of you. The 6th years also presented Ms. Flynn, Mr. Scollan and Mr. Ferguson with hampers as a token for everything they have done for them over the last number of years.
Mr. Moran presented the Victor Ludorum Sports award to Rory Carthy, speaking highly and fittingly of his sporting achievements throughout his time in CBS as well as outside of it. Mr. Scollan then announced our Student of the Year for the Class of 2024, Michael Moran, a student described as kind, determined, diligent and humble by his teachers. Congratulations Rory and Michael on your awards. You have both exemplified the talents and the character of your year group.
Thank you to Fr. Joe Fitzgerald and Deacon Willie Gacquin for celebrating the mass. Thank you to Ms. Flynn, Ms. Daly, Mr. Moran, Ms. Reale, Brenda and Ms. Quinn for their organisation of the mass and the mass booklets. A massive thank you to our Parents Council who work tirelessly throughout the year to support us, including providing refreshments on the night. Thank you to Kieran and Jason for the preparation of the hall. And finally, thank you to the students and their families for making it such a special evening of celebration.
To the Class of 2024, from all of the staff at the CBS, we wish you the very best of luck in your exams in June but also in the next chapter of your lives, wherever that may take you. We are so proud of each and every one of you, what you have achieved and the young men that you have become. Be brave, be kind and most importantly be yourself. Congratulations lads!
