TY Camping Trip

On September 30th the TY students of CBS accompanied by Mr.Griffith, Mr.Hodgins and Mr.Hynes participated in an overnight camping trip in Roscommon Adventure Centre. The students and teachers cycled a distance  of 35km to reach their destination. The trip’s aim was to give TYs the opportunity to create team bonding between students and to work to together as a team in a fun and active environment. In Rooskey the students and teachers carried out many different activities including: archery, kayaking, mud slide and pier jumping.

The second leg of the journey involved students rowing 1.5km to an island where they would camp for the night. Unfortunately, the weather conditions had caused flooding on the island,  so they had to row back an additional 1.5km. Then they stayed in newly built tents in Rooskey. Phones were prohibited for the night, but this served to increase communication between the students, and helped them get to know one another while having fun. It made the lads escape from social media and enjoy the craic around them. One student from the CBS said “ It was a great experience and I enjoyed every minute of the trip”.

Many thanks to the teachers Mr.Griffith, Mr.Hodgins and Mr.Hynes for accompanying the students and for organising the trip. Also a thanks to Noel Feely for organising bikes for the students and to the Shannon Adventure Centre for putting together many activities for the students. (article by Michael Moran,TY student)
